14. Rare Bacchus concentric millefiori weight containing a large central pink and white pastry mold cane encircled by complex cog canes and shield canes, in aquamarine, pink, royal blue and white. "Colors as intense as Baccarat's (especially reds, thalo greens and cobalt blues) appear in a few weights, though for the most part the colors are more subtle, which I find quite refreshing. Although restricted by a somewhat limited pallet, the Bacchus glassworkers used their colors in the brilliant way of pointillist and impressionist painters. The varying thickness of colored glass over a white base and the close proximity of various hues gives the impression of a large range of colors. Paul Hollister comments in The Encyclopedia of Glass Paperweights, 'This making of much from little in both design and color is the essence of artistic sensibility.'"-Annual Bulletin of the Paperweight Collectors Association, Inc. (1999). (See Old English Paperweights, p. 47) Diameter 3 5/16". $3250-4000

The majority of canes are well known cogs and ruffles, but a very rare honeycomb cane can be seen with careful viewing."-Old English Paperweights. (See Old English Paperweights, pp. 14-67) Diameter 3". $3250-4000
16. Very nice Baccarat looped millefiori garland colorground weight containing eight clef note-shaped loops of stardust/bull's-eye canes, alternating with complex cog/six-pointed star canes, over a translucent cranberry ground. The design is centered on a central arrow/quatrefoil cane, encircled by a row of stardust /bull's-eye canes. Baccarat artisans rarely employed color grounds in their weights. "Most garlands are set in clear glass (even in the translucent overlay weights), though a few appear on lace, carpet or color grounds, where the canes take on more life."-The Encyclopedia of Glass Paperweights. (See The Encyclopedia of Glass Paperweights, pp. 55-56, 61) Diameter 2 7/8". $1100-1500

"The patchwork quilt of one hundred or one hundred and fifty canes in a close millefiori paperweight offers a sampling of many or most of the canes made by a factory, and treats the eye to an almost endless variety."-Glass Paperweights of The New-York Historical Society. Bubble in the dome. From the Winters collection. Diameter 2 1/8". $1600-2500
18. Unusual Baccarat miniature close packed millefiori weight with a salmon and green rose amidst a loosely placed arrangement of complex pastry mold, stardust, fortress, arrow, six-pointed star, quatrefoil, whorl and bull's-eye canes, in ruby, pink, salmon, pale yellow, cobalt blue, robin's egg blue, amethyst and white, on a white lace ground. The rose and pastry mold canes in this design show a strong Clichy influence. The canes are bolder than one generally finds in traditional Baccarat close pack weights, more resembling the style of Clichy, which left its canes large to allow for a richer portrayal of color. From the Winters collection. Diameter 2". $600-1200
