7. Rare Baccarat dated
blue star carpet ground weight with complex canes, in
coral, orange, yellow, plum, cadmium green, cobalt blue and turquoise,
in a sea of complex blue and white six-pointed star canes. The
piece includes the Gridel silhouette canes of a deer, a goat,
a dog, a rooster and a moth. B1848 signature/date cane. The term
carpet was first applied to these weights in the Catalogue
des Collections des Arts et Métiers (Paris, 1855).

8. Rare Baccarat interlaced
trefoil garland weight. A garland of complex red six-pointed
star/trefoil/cog canes interlocks with a garland of green complex
cog/star/whorl canes. The trefoils are centered on a red, white,
blue and emerald complex arrow/fortress cane, surrounded by a
ring of pale green and white stardust/bulls-eye canes.
The arrangement is set on a bed of white lace. A similar piece
was sold in the L. H. Selman Ltd. Fall 1993 Mail Auction. Diameter

9. Very nice Clichy cinquefoil
garland on lace weight, with a central pink and green rose nestled
at the center of a five-looped, thalo blue garland composed of
complex cog/floret/bulls-eye canes. The rose is encircled
by garlands of cog and pastry mold canes, in cherry, cadmium
green and cobalt blue, on a white lace ground. Large cherry pastry
mold canes have been placed outside the loops of the garland.
Complex pink cogs decorate the interior loops of the garland.
"All in all, Clichy paperweights represent the best in classic

10. Excellent
Bacchus magnum close concentric millefiori weight with
complex ruffle, cog, and six-pointed star canes, in yellow, pink,
amber, brown, mint, cobalt blue and white, around a large central
white ruffle in a cup. This example is outstanding for the number
of colors incorporated into the design, the complexity of the
canework, and the size of the weight. "Compared to the output
of the French glass works of Clichy, Baccarat and Saint Louis,
the Bacchus production was very limited, possibly four hundred

11. Outstanding
Baccarat dated close packed millefiori weight containing
the Gridel silhouettes of a dog, a deer, a monkey, a goat, a
rooster and a horse, as well as two different types of rose portrait
canes and a blue flax portrait cane. Hawley identifies one of
the flower portraits as the rarest French rose. The design also
includes complex six-pointed star canes, whorl canes, arrow canes,
trefoil canes, quatrefoil canes, fortress canes, honeycomb canes,
cog canes, shamrock canes, stardust canes, and bulls-eye
canes, in cobalt blue, blue opal, pink, ruby, turquoise, salmon,
leaf green, sea foam green, emerald green, yellow, mauve, amethyst,
lemonade, Indian yellow and white. Bubble in the dome. see inside

12. Very nice
Saint Louis pink carpet ground weight. The silhouettes
of a dancing man, a camel, two dogs and a devil on ice skates,
each encircled by a garland of lime canes, are set in a sea of
pink crimped canes. A complex pink, white and powder blue star
cane, encircled by a garland of lime canes, decorates the center
