43. Good Baccarat close
packed millefiori weight with the Gridel silhouettes
of a rooster, deer, goat and dog amidst six-pointed star canes,
whorl canes, arrow canes, trefoil canes, quatrefoil canes, fortress
canes, cog canes, shamrock canes, honeycomb canes and bulls-eye
canes, in cobalt blue, ruby, turquoise, salmon, leaf green, emerald
green, yellow, mauve and white. "Close millefiori
refers to the close vertical packing together of the canes, like
people in a dense crowd. The patchwork quilt of one hundred or
one hundred and fifty canes in a close millefiori paperweight
offers a sampling of many or most of the canes made by a factory,
and treats the eye to an almost endless variety."-Glass

44. Nice Baccarat circular
garland millefiori weight with circlets of white and
green stardust/bulls-eye canes, alternating with red, white
and blue cog/six-pointed star canes, around a central arrow/six-pointed
star cane, encircled by a row of complex cog/stardust canes.
Complex cog and arrow canes decorate the center of each circlet.

45. Clichy spoked circular
garland weight, with a pink and green rose
in one of the circlets. Spokes of pastry mold, cog and
edelweiss canes divide circlets of pastry mold, cog and stardust
canes, in pink, watermelon, lilac, cobalt blue, cadmium green,
forest green and white. Complex canes decorate the center of
each circlet. Cullet in the glass visible on the side of the
weight beneath the canes. "Many garland weights contain
both simple pastry-mold canes and complex florets with extremely
detailed, minutely reduced interiors in a close association that

46. Saint Louis
patterned millefiori garland weight with five complex
six-pointed star canes, in pink, cadmium green and white, around
a central six-pointed star/cog cane. The arrangement is surrounded
by a garland of complex pink, white and powder blue six-pointed
star canes, alternating with cobalt blue, white, ruby and chartreuse
six-pointed star canes. The canes float above a grid-cut ground
in a crystal dome with a circular top facet. Diameter 2 5/8".

47. Saint Louis
crown weight with red and green twists alternating with
white latticinio filigree, projecting from a red, white and blue
complex star cane. Bubbles near the base of the weight. Diameter
2 1/16". $1800-2500

48. Clichy miniature
open concentric millefiori weight with ten pink and green roses.
A central pink and white edelweiss cane is encircled
by a circlet of cadmium green pastry mold canes, and a circlet
of roses, divided by complex lilac pastry mold canes. "Though
most Clichy canes are composed of a center, an outer sheathing,
and the part in between, the whole design is often so reduced
in size, so beautifully executed, and so subtle in coloring as
