85. Opaline goblet, probably Clichy or Saint Louis, the fancy pinched bowl of the glass is decorated with a turquoise and white spiral twist. The bowl of the goblet is fit with a skillful brass portrayal of lilies. The foot of the cup is decorated with the brass portrayal of a primrose garland. The direction of the torsade identifies this piece as a product of Clichy or Saint Louis. It is interesting to consider the Victorian meaning of the flowers, youth and happiness, both the common subject of toasts. (See Identifying Antique Paperweights—Millefiori,p. 30) Height 6 1/4". $1000-1500

86. Good Whitefriars-type close concentric millefiori inkwell with complex cog and quatrefoil canes, in Persian blue, pink, white, lavender, pale yellow and aquamarine, in the base and the stopper. From the Winters collection. Height 6 1/2". $900-1200

87. Magnum overlay newel post, possibly Bohemian, with a hollow-blown, ruby-flash overlay dome, connected to a glass foot mounted on a wood base. The top of the piece is cut with a fancy flower-shaped facet, and the sides are cut with three rows of circular facets. Tiny chips and scratches. One bubble near the surface of the glass. Height 8", diameter of globe 4 1/2". $500-700

88. Rare Whitefriars-type/Richardson faceted close concentric millefiori newel post with cog canes, in periwinkle, turquoise, white and salmon, inside a geometric faceted dome. The glass is set in a brass mount with a hand-carved wood base. Bruise in one of the facets. Height 4 3/4", diameter of dome 3 1/4". $600-1000 complex ruffle, cog, and six-pointed star canes, in yellow, pink, amber, brown, mint, cobalt blue and white, around a large central white ruffle in a cup. This example is outstanding for the number of colors incorporated into the design, the complexity of the canework, and the size of the weight. "Compared to the output of the French glass works of Clichy, Baccarat and Saint Louis, the Bacchus production was very limited, possibly four hundred or so in total."-Old English Paperweights.see front cover. Diameter 3 5/8". $10,000-12,000

89. Rare Whitefriars-type/Richardson concentric millefiori newel post with cog canes in periwinkle, Persian blue, white and lake red. The glass is set in a brass mount with a hand-carved wood base. The base of this piece and the previous lot appear to have been created by the same person. Bruises in the side of the dome. Height 4 15/16", diameter of dome 2 13/16". $600-1000
