Limited edition of 25. "In the compound form Stankard was struggling with the medium to find a new approach for his statements. Signature cane. Dated. "A bolt from the blue struck him from the radio, from a program on WHYY, a classical station out of Philadelphia. Two commentators were discussing excellence, and one of them stated that in order to do excellent work, you had to be able to recognize excellence, not just in your own field but in art, in literature, and in music. Artistic achievement was a constant quest for excellence. A simple enough concept, but it hit Paul like an electric charge, and made him determined to take risks, to be original, to truly become the artist he wanted to be. Paul had a new goal: to contribute to the history of glass, not just at the periphery, but at its center."—Paul J. Stankard: Homage to Nature.Diameter 3". $2500-3500

138. Paul Stankard 1979 Sippewisset Bouquet weight containing a pair of pink wild roses, with upright yellow filament stamens, stalks of white foxglove, blackberries, and yellow cactus blossoms with upright orange stamens, on gathered stems with green leaves. Signature cane. Dated. Limited edition of 50. "The compelling beauty of the wildflower motif belies the true to nature message in Stankard’s work. For a fleeting moment, one can be captivated by the exquisite detail of the image and the varying ground textures. However, closer inspection suggests the artist’s deeper response to the cycle of the environment."—Paul J. Stankard: Poetry in Glass. (See Paul Joseph Stankard: The First Decade,pp. 34, 36) Diameter 2 15/16". $2800-3500
