140. Paul Stankard 1985 blackberries weight. Three ripening blackberries hang on green stems from a brown branch with a large white blossom and buds, over an opaque red ground. Signature cane. Dated. "Between 1969 and 1971 he experimented with paperweights, making what he looks back on as stupid mistakes (sometimes repeatedly) and gradually teaching himself the new technical skills he needed to know. Reinventing the wheel, so to speak, was a difficult task, but Paul kept at it simply because he was in love with the idea of making beautiful things."—Paul J. Debbie Tarsitano 1996 magnum mosaic fiber ground butterfly weight, the insect, with intricately patterned orange, yellow, emerald and blue wings, attached to a black body with filigree antennae, flutters over a large pink dahlia nestled on a multicolored fiber ground, inside a garland of green and white moss, and pink camomile canes. Signed and dated. "After receiving a sound education in art, she made her first weight in 1970. Her works are unique and Debbie is the first woman practicing the art in the United States. 142. Delmo Tarsitano snake weight, the reptile, with ruby and yellow coils, slithers over a sandy ground containing a branch of pink and purple flowers with yellow centers. Signature cane. "Delmo Tarsitano was born in northern Italy and grew up in the New York City area. He was first introduced to paperweights by seeing and purchasing an antique weight at an auction. He was fascinated enough to begin studying and collecting them, and eventually became an expert in the identification of antique paperweights. In addition to appreciating the beauty of paperweights, Tarsitano took an interest in the technical aspects of paperweight making and began experimenting with making weights on his own. He produced his first successful paperweight in 1976. Three years later he and his daughter Debbie began making paperweights full-time."—All About Paperweights.Diameter 3 3/8". $3000-5000

Excellent Delmo Tarsitano pears on lace weight containing four yellow pears with an amber blush, nestled about a central blue clematis with upright yellow stamens, on a white lace ground inside a garland of complex star, rose and pastry mold canes, in pink, lime, chartreuse, powder blue, cobalt blue, brown, pistachio, forest green and white. Signature cane. "He drew his subject matter from things that delighted him as a boy. Growing up in Queens, just outside of New York City, during the Depression, Del saw vegetables, peaches and other farming scenes that formed his character and love for nature."—Annual Bulletin of the Paperweight Collectors’ Association, Inc.(1991).
