217. Paul Ysart close packed
millefiori perfume bottle containing complex cog, quatrefoil
and star canes, in pink, fuchsia, amethyst, powder blue, turquoise,
cobalt blue, lime, emerald, chartreuse, yellow, amber, orange
and white, in the stopper and the base of the cone-shaped bottle.
A garland of amber and white complex cog canes encircles the
arrangement in both the base and the stopper. (See Scottish

218. Early Paul Ysart
magnum spoked millefiori weight with eight spokes of
complex cog canes emanating from a central concentric disc of
complex cogs, in cobalt blue, Persian blue, fuchsia, chartreuse,
orange, ruby, emerald and white. "Paul Ysart is generally
recognized as the finest paperweight maker of his time. His skills
were learned from his father Salvador, an immigrant glassmaker

219. Paul Ysart scrambled
millefiori weight containing whole and broken canes,
including complex cog, quatrefoil and star canes, in pink, ruby,
fuchsia, amethyst, lilac, yellow, amber, chartreuse, pistachio,
emerald, copper aventurine, orange and white. The colors and
patterns of the canes are reflected in evenly spaced balloon-shaped
bubbles placed in the center and around the exterior of the design.
"These pieces are quite rare from Paul Ysart. This piece

220. Paul Ysart
Robert Burns sulphide weight with a central white cameo
of the Scottish poet, encircled by a feathered blue and mauve
torsade on an opaque black ground. The torsade was cleverly created
with millefiori rods whose pattern is visible from the side.
"Paul made his discovery that a ceramic clay pipe could
be encased in glass without the piece fracturing. This led Paul
to experiment with the old French techniques of sulphide paperweights,
perfected by the Baccarat and Clichy factories in the 1850s."Scottish

in green and gold aventurine with red spots, swim over a sandy
