229. Francis Whittemore
footed blue crimp rose pedestal weight containing a fifteen-petaled
blossom cupped inside four green leaves, on a fancy footed crystal
pedestal. Signature cane. "I started blowing glass in 1938.
I saw someone demonstrating the technique, got interested, and
fooled around with it. My father finally purchased some decent
equipment. Then I really went to work blowing glass. I got a
lot of help, but essentially taught myself. Ive done just
about everything in the glass and scientific fields. I have an
excellent technical background in botany and biology as well."All

crimped rose weight containing a fifteen-petaled blossom
cupped inside four green leaves. Signature cane. "Even though
Wesley Lutz started making paperweights in the late 1960s (1975
by some accounts) just after Jack Choko started, he does so now
as a hobby and not as a business. He made crimp roses and a few
crimp tulips through the 1970s and early 1980s, but only makes
a few currently to give as gifts."The Dictionary

petals around a yellow-speckled green center, nestles on a bed
of striped green leaves, over a translucent cobalt blue ground.

Whittemore yellow crimp rose scent bottle containing
a furled blossom cupped inside four green leaves, in the base
of a pitcher-shaped scent bottle, containing a pointed stopper
decorated with swirled yellow filigree. "Whittemore studied
at Harvard University for two years before entering military
service. After 1946, he spent sixteen years working as a technical
glassblower developing and perfecting his skills in the field.
Whittemore began making paperweights in preparation for teaching
a class on decorative glassblowing in Salem County, New Jersey."All

burnt-orange cabbage rose ring stand containing a furled
blossom on a stalk with emerald green leaves on an opaque apricot
ground. Signed. "As a glassblower, he specialized in the
manufacture of neon tubing. His interest in antique glass and
the creative potential of the medium led him to paperweight making.
Using only torches, he experimented with many different paperweight
motifs, especially those popular in antique French weights."All

stalk of white bell-shaped blossoms, with yellow stamens, on
an opaque tangerine ground. "A professional lampworker from
Bridgeport, Michigan, Robert Hansen, son of Ronald Hansen, specializes
in glass animals and figures. Robert Hansen signs his weights
with a full signature in script on the base."All
