star canes, in Persian blue, aqua, lilac, white, emerald, pale
blue and ruby, on a pedestal with a star-cut base. Five and one

faceted paneled millefiori weight containing five pie-shaped
wedges of complex cog/six-pointed canes, in pink, lime, pale
blue and yellow, divided by white latticinio cables. Circular
top facet and two rows of side facets. From the Winters collection.

246. Whitefriars 1978 star
millefiori weight containing a central red, white and
blue star/cog cane encircled by rows of cog/six-pointed star
canes and bundled rods, in pink, blue, white and lime. An inner
circlet of canes is highly complex, with each cane composed of
more than fifty elements. Signature/date cane. Five and one faceting.

1975 Christmas angel weight with the central millefiori
mosaic portrait cane of an angel encircled by three rows of canes,
including a row of twelve smaller angel portraits, blue stardust
canes and pistachio complex cog/star canes. Five and one faceting.
Signature/date cane. Limited edition of 1000. "The 1970’s,
with the designs of Geoffrey Baxter, brought Whitefriars to the
forefront of paperweight making, and in the following years they
produced Christmas and limited edition paperweights and inkwells
that were the match of any modern paperweight of the day."—Old

1977 millefiori mosaic nativity scene weight
containing a central millefiori mosaic of the manger,
with the blue silhouette of Mary looking down on a manger in
a barn, beneath a yellow millefiori star flanked by the millefiori
mosaic portraits of two angels. The angels are set in a sea of
blue and white stardust canes encircled by a double garland of
pink, white and blue cog/six-pointed star canes. Signature/date
cane. Five and one faceting. Limited edition of 1000. "The
Christmas weight is part of a limited edition of five hundred,
but the Whitefriars records held by Caithness Glass, who bought
the company in receivership, show that most limited editions
were never produced in full. In many cases an edition of one
thousand may have resulted in only three or four hundred being

mosaic portrait cane of the three wise men, walking across a
blue stardust carpet towards a large six-pointed star, inside
