310. Important Saint Louis 1981 magnum millefiori basket weight. This rare presentation piece was created for Paul Jokelson to honor his incredible contribution to the art of the paperweight. The design, inspired by a famous antique Clichy piece, is composed of a pinched oval containing fourteen rows of complex canes, including star, cog, stardust and quatrefoil canes, in ruby, pink, thalo blue, cobalt blue, pistachio, leaf green, lime, Indian yellow and white. The arrangement is placed on a swirling white latticinio pedestal, decorated with a pink and white filigree ribbon twist, around the base and the top of the design. A pink and white filigree ribbon twist handle completes the basket. "A highlight of the banquet was the presentation of two gifts to Mr. Jokelson in recognition of his many years of devoted service as President of the PCA. Representing Cristalleries de Saint Louis, Gerard Ingold presented a magnum crystal basket filled with millefiori canes in a concentric pattern and topped with a twist handle."—Annual Bulletin of the Paperweight Collectors’ Association(1981). (See Annual Bulletin of the Paperweight Collectors’ Association(1981), cover, p. 36) Height 8". Width 8 1/4". $10, 000-16, 000
