Lot 19
Clichy bold-faced pansy paperweight. With two crowning
purple upper petals, and three lower petals in yellow and purple.
A closed purple bud hangs to the right. The middle lower petal
displays the indent that was a Clichy trademark, and the realistic
green leaves and stem are arranged three-dimensionally on clear
ground. In nineteenth-century flower language the pansy symbolized
tender thoughts and friendship.

Lot 20
Clichy faceted cinquefoil paperweight.The simplicity
and airiness of the composition is belied by the complexity of
each cane. The garland has lapis blue pastry mold canes alternating
with pink and white bull's-eye canes, with cross cane centers.
As it winds around the clear ground it frames a central green
and white complex cane. The five facets and vertical flutes seem
to multiply this arrangement.
Diameter 3 1/8" Estimate: $1600 - 1900 |
