Click on the image to enlarge	Lot 209 Baccarat Gridel pelican paperweight encircled by concentric canes, including a ring of the eighteen Gridel silhouettes, on upset muslin. The playfulness of the silhouettes is inherent to their original creator, a nine-year old boy entertaining himself with cut-outs in 1847. Due to young Joseph's preternatural graphics skills, "...Baccarat had the idea, around 1970, of producing millefiori weights based on the collection of the 18 Gridel animals that had adorned and became the trademark of the Baccarat millefiori of the nineteenth century."-A History of Baccarat Modern Paperweights. 1974 signature/date cane.
