THE CATALOGUE
"The art of cameo under glass called 'sulphide' comes
from this observation (of Apsley Pellatt, Curiosities of Glassmaking,
London, 1849) that the 'drops of rain or dew give a silvery aspect
to the leaves which are villous and rough to the touch. From
this it has been deduced that an unpolished object which does
not melt at the temperature of crystal could, incrusted in its
depth, simulate silver.'"
-Sulphides, The Art of Cameo Incrustation, Paul Jokelson
