Lot 10
Saint Louis antique pink dahlia paperweight,
containing a large flower with four tiers of veined petals. The center "stamen" is comprised of an array of puffed yellow glass, possibly powdered and applied to a small bulb of colorless glass to achieve transparency. The magnificent bloom shows five leaves from behind its flower head, and is finished with two green leaves and a stem. Over a clear, star-cut ground. (See, fig 134, p 47, Paperweights from the Henry Melville Fuller Collection.)
Diameter 3 1/4". $4250-4750

Lot 11
Pantin antique orchid paperweight,
displaying six white blossoms with bulbous pink centers on dark reed-like leaves. Possibly an interpretation of the phalaenopsis orchids, some of which grow in a cluster and exhibit a wide flat crown of petals and protruding, lower lips. Orchids occupied a position of extreme vogue in the 1870s, when this piece is believed to have been produced. They were high-priced luxury plants, available to only the wealthiest flower fanciers. This piece is attributed to the mysterious "Fourth" French factory, because of its high dome, lampwork detail and creative botanical composition. All over clear ground. Formerly part of the private collection of Alan Tillman. (See, The Fourth Factory, Annual Bulletin of the PCA, 1965; see also, A Pantin Discovery, Annual Bulletin of the PCA, 1981.)
Diameter 2 15/16". $8500-9500

Lot 13
Outstanding Baccarat antique Type I pansy paperweight.
The upper petals are a plush, plum color; the three lower lip petals exhibit the Baccarat factory's distinctive arrow canes, with the cogged edges flattened and appearing ruffled. The stamen is composed of a cream-colored honeycomb cane, centered with a six-point star. There are five stylized leaves about the top of the flower, quite different from the veining in the two leaves coming from the flower's stem, which also has a small white blossom and repeats the honeycomb cane at center. The flat bouquet is encircled by a complex cane garland, with tomato red and white cog canes, and white stardust with pale blue bull's eyes on clear ground; five and one facets.
Diameter 3 1/16". $8500-9500
