Lot 97
Paul Stankard 1987 Indian gourds paperweight. Buttery-orange
and pea green gourds grow in keen bow to large green leaves.
At center, poppy-bright, unfurling blossoms and tendrils add
animation. The squash fruits are dwarfed by their leaves, but
are still wonderfully realized, with their surface irregularities,
and what appears to be a smudge of garden soil on one of the
gourds. Limited edition of 75. Signature cane.
Diameter 3 1/4". $1000-2000 |

Lot 98
Paul Stankard 1983 Jack-in-the-Pulpit paperweight. An
authentic recreation of this hearty wildflower, on cobalt blue
ground, with roots, leaves, and red seeds. This floral could
be an allusion to turn-of-the-century glass designer, Louis C.
Tiffany, who described some of his vases' unusual shapes as "Jack-in-the-Pulpits."
Signature cane. Limited edition of 50.
Diameter 3 1/8". $1600-2400 |

fantasy flower invented by Stankard), assorted blossoms, buds
and leaves on clear ground; signature cane. Dated 1979.

Lot 100
Paul Stankard 1978 compound violets paperweight. Evoking
their own floral language of "modesty," Stankard's
arrangement seems to suggest the violet faces are shyly folding
or peeking out from behind their leaves. With one lavender flower,
three white flowers, several buds and heart-shaped green leaves
on clear ground; signature cane. Limited edition of 75.
Diameter 2 15/16". $1800-3000 |

Lot 102
Paul Stankard thistle flower paperweight. Featuring
two bushy pink thistles with a bud, thorny green leaves and trailing
roots on clear ground. "What he accomplishes can only
be done in glass. The fragility and impermanence of a wild blossom
become permanent. Like a Jurassic insect trapped in amber; his
flowers will still be blooming, still be fresh and bright, decades,
centuries from now." -Paul J. Stankard: Homage to Nature.
Signed/dated 1988.
Diameter 3 3/16". $2750-3500 |
