Lot 180
Saint Louis clear encased red-over-white double overlay gingham paperweight.
The signature Saint Louis design of a multi-colored upright bouquet on green leaves is matched in technical achievement by an encased red-over-white gingham double overlay. This piece was inspired by a famous Saint Louis antique, and is known as one of the most difficult of all paperweights to create. A three-dimensional stem extends down to the bottom of the paperweight. An SL1989 signature/date cane can be seen inside a white flower. The overlay's "open work" suggests traditional faceting and engraving on the surface. Limited edition of 50. (See, The Art of the Paperweight-Saint Louis {revised edition}, Annual Limited Editions section.)
Diameter 3 3/4". $4000-6000
