organic freeflowing design, two flowers with white-tipped petals
and a sea green interior, bloom on stylized vines over an iridescent
dark green weight. Signed/dated 1975.

Steven Lundberg Glass Art Tropical Hibiscus paperweight.
An upright flower design, creating a visual fountain more
architectural than botanical. The bright yellow stamens are presented
in a tall broom-like array, while the rich red petals flutter
and ruffle around them, and the leaves create the flounced base.
Encased in clear crystal. Signed/dated 1998. The hibiscus family
is native to Asia and Pacific islands. The hibiscus is Malaysia's
national flower, and so-called Shoe Flower. "Besides
its orn-amental value the Hibiscus has other uses such as medicine
and cosmetics for dyeing the hair and eyebrows while the juice
is used as shoe polish." -Agrolink Malaysia.

Lundberg Studios compound paperweight with a lavender
poinsettia, encircled by green leaves and red berries on an iridescent
white ground. Signed by Daniel Salazar. Dated 1991. "In
1974 Daniel Salazar became a helper for the Lundberg Studios
glass team. It soon became evident that Daniel had a unique flair
for design and in 1978 he began making his own paperweight designs.
Museum collections: Corning Museum of Glass; Smithsonian;
Bergstrom Museum.." -Paperweights of the 19th and 20th
Centuries.

Lot 281
David Salazar compound miniature paperweight. A leafy
tree presides over a patch of night-blooming flowers, silhouetted
by a sultry harvest-colored moon in an iridescent cobalt blue
sky. Signed/dated 1996. "To be interested in the changing
seasons is a happier state of mind than to be hopelessly in love
with spring." -George Santayana.

David Salazar Pacific Grove miniature paperweight.
A tiny Monarch butterfly, the Coastal gem, flies amongst giant
pink blossoms over a swirl of pale magenta. Signed/dated 1999.
David Salazar has been creating paperweights combining the art
of torchwork, lampwork and millefiori since 1973, when he worked
as an apprentice glassworker at Lundberg Studios. His work has
been featured in many museums and publications, including the
cover of Smithsonian magazine. "Glass is more than inspirational,
it's my passion," says Salazar. "There's still so much
to learn and so many designs to create."

A surface design of dark celestial blue glass studded with bright
white stars and featuring a golden crescent moon with a twinkling,
full-lipped, smiling face. Signed/dated 1996. "We and
the cosmos are one. The cosmos is a vast living body, of which

delicate features of the seahorse are expertly realized, as the
tiny creature hides amongst waving seagrass and shells. In the
background, a plume of coral and a swirl of white filigree glass
