*Antique Sandwich Glass Company weedflower paperweight,
with two red upper petals and three lower blue-and-white-striped
petals, above a green and white Clichy-type rose as the stamen.
"For want of a better name, this is the other common
Sandwich flower and appears to be a pure (Nicholas) Lutz botanical
invention.
Whatever its initial spark, the weedflower is

Lot 93
Antique Sandwich Glass Company poinsettia paperweight,
with two tiers of coral-colored petals, a complex cane center,
green leaves and stem, on red, white and blue jasper ground.
"(Deming) Jarves recruited his glass-blowers from all
over the world
In 1869 Jarves died, leaving a vacancy for
someone to take over the company. This was done by Nicholas Lutz,
who was originally trained at the Saint Louis factory in France.
Lutz was a well-traveled man, who had worked at several different
factories in Europe, including one at Murano." -A Collector's
