Lot 99
Antique "Rock of Ages" paperweight, set
on a milk white opaque ground with circular top facet. The motto
and image of the triumphal cross, ca. 1900s, are likely from
the popular Christian hymn of that period based on the verse,
"The Lord is the Rock eternal," Isaiah 26:4.
These types of paperweights have a distinctive "fuzzy"
appearance. These simply made pieces were perhaps produced as
gifts or samples by the many glassworkers in Ohio, West Virginia,
Pennsylvania, New England, New York or New Jersey areas, that
supported enormous glass production in the first half of the
twentieth century. Small chips and bruise near facet.
Diameter 3 7/16". $300-500 |
