Lot 106
Antique Val St. Lambert patterned millefiori paperweight,
in a star pattern, with many white Clichy-type roses, on opaque scarlet ground, framed by segments of colored twists in bright red, white and blue. "These paperweights do not turn up very often at European or American auctions; so one must assume that, unless they are secreted in great numbers in Belgian households, not very many were made. Canes include star rods, crimped canes, and an assortment of pastry molds. At first glance they vaguely resemble Clichy canes, but after more careful scrutiny they are easily distinguishable." -The Encyclopedia of Glass Paperweights.
Diameter 3 1/2". $1400-2500

See The Encyclopedia of Glass Paperweights, p. 246. Some wear, scratches, and a warp along the side of the sphere.
Diameter of base 3 7/16", Height 3 11/16". $900-1200
