Lot 135
Paul Stankard 1983 braided bouquet paperweight, with
raspberries, daisies, blue-eyed grass, buds and a bee. 'S' signature
cane. "In the Bouquet form, Stankard began to struggle
with the issue of overlapping objects in a deeper space. The
complexity of these arrangements and forms continued as the artist
worked further toward a fully realized sculptural space later
achieved in his upright forms." -Jan Smith, Paul J.

Lot 139
Paul Stankard 1989 botanical block sculpture, with
pink and white goatsbeard flowers in an earth ground; roots,
a spirit and a pale green bulbous form underground. Two textured
sides. Signed and dated. "It was an exciting breakthrough
to go from paperweights to botanical blocks. In this new sculptural
format I developed the concept of presenting what was above and
below the earth. ...I discovered a new presentation which I called
'environmentals' ...(in which) I explore life energy under the
earth which is translated by 'spirits' or 'root people'."
-Paul Stankard, All About Paperweights.
