*Gordon Smith 1986 bird of paradise floral paperweight,
on deep translucent blue. Signed 'GES' and dated. "Gordon Smith first became interested in glassmaking... at Wheaton Village in 1975. In 1980 he began working for Kontes Glass, a scientific glassblowing firm owned by James and Nontas Kontes. The Kontes brothers devoted much of their spare time to making paperweights. ...The Kontes brothers, the Banfords, and Paul Stankard all helped and encouraged Smith... By 1982, after much experimentation, he had broken through the technical barriers and was on his way to producing quality paperweights." -All About Paperweights.
