Whitefriars 1978 faceted barrel-shaped paperweight
with concentric millefiori, in shades of pink and green; signature/date cane. Top facet and seven side-finger facets, with printies bordering the top and the base. "Whitefriars had a very extensive cutting and engraving department, and utilized these facilities in the majority of their work. Paperweights could be faceted in numerous different styles." -Robert Hall, Old English Paperweights, p. 145.

Whitefriars 1976 faceted Olympics paperweight,
with a torch cane, five interlaced circular garlands, signature and date canes on dark blue ground; faceted. Limited edition of 1000.

Lot 248
Whitefriars 1976 Liberty Bell paneled millefiori paperweight,
containing five panels, each with bell picture canes enclosed by cluster and cog canes in pink, lapis blue and pistachio green, divided by radiating spokes of white latticinio, over translucent cobalt blue ground. While the year and motif suggest the Bicentennial's influence, the colors are subdued (typical of Whitefriars), not strident. Signature and date cane. Five and one faceting. The number '34' engraved on the base. "Whitefriars Glass, a factory in London that some believe have been producing millefiori paperweights since about 1848, closed its doors in 1981. Immediately thereafter, Caithness Glass of Scotland purchased the complete stock of Whitefriars millefiori canes, the right to use the company's name and logo, and its extensive color library, which included formulas for several thousand glass colors." -The Art of the Paperweight.

with a pink overlay rose cane at the center, and six panels of complex star and cog canes in cream, pink and scarlet, divided by pale blue latticinio spokes. Over translucent cobalt blue ground, with six and one faceting. Signature and date cane.
