Lot 42
*Antique Saint Louis faceted upright bouquet paperweight,
with two air rings. Wreathing the dimensional bouquet (looking as if it were drawn out of a magic top-hat) is a torsade with a broad ribbon of cobalt blue, wrapping filaments of white glass. The air rings were created as the glassblower placed the torsade. The light refracts inside these hollow spaces, imitating bright, liquid mercury. This is also the phenomenon with incrusted sulphides, and further contributes to the mystique of these crystal domes. Pieces of cullet inside, and minor chips and scratches around the facets.
Diameter 3 1/4". $2250-3000

--Exhibited: Collection of the Corning Museum of Glass
