Lot 96
Antique Bacchus magnum four-row concentric basket paperweight,
in white, blue, pink and red. This large weight has a formal,
almost decorous look. "Some very unusual colors have
appeared in Bacchus paperweights, including... lilacs and lavenders....
It was very rare for Bacchus to make more than one paperweight
of the same pattern, as only one or two pieces have been found
to be the same as another. Although they used the same canes
in many paperweights, they all tend to show many differences
in design and color."--Old English Paperweights.
Diameter 3 5/8". $8000-10,000 |

Lot 97
Rare antique Bacchus close packed complex millefiori paperweight,
with a ring of hollow canes in green and white forming a
basket. Along with the predominant green coloration, the arrangement
offers bright coral and blue canes, and offers qualities collectors
look for: well-made, well-placed canes and a generous dome. Its
less-than-formal arrangement gives it a lively, fanciful character.
Unpolished pontil.
Diameter 2 15/16". $3000-5000 |
