Lot 107
*Antique Pinchbeck Biblical scene paperweight, displaying
the metallic relief developed by a London watch-maker in the
1700s. The technique employed a copper-zinc alloy meant to imitate
expensive gold-foil. The silvery scene, magnified under the dome,
is modeled in a Neo-Classical style which depicts the Pharaoh's
daughter and her retinue, bathing at the riverside and discovering
the baby Moses. The name, Moses, translates as "rescued
or drawn out." Pinchbeck weights exhibit a variety of mounts
and pedestals. This presentation is set atop lacquered wood.
Diameter of base 4 1/16". $1800-2500 |
