Lot 140
*Ray Banford cabbage rose bouquet faceted paperweight.
The fancy cutting and milk-white ground accentuates the rose-red and snow-white blossoms, multiplying the little rondelles and their crowning leaves into a great climbing rosebush. "Ray Banford first became intrigued by the idea of making paperweights after visiting the workshop of Adolph Macho, an elderly Czechoslovakian glass craftsman in Vineland, New Jersey. Ray had worked as an antique dealer for many years and often did business with paperweight makers Pete Lewis and John Choko."--All About Paperweights. "B" signature cane.
Diameter 2 3/4". $500-700

Lot 141
*Ray Banford pink rose paperweight,
over diamond- cut ground. The small rose heads show off a dark pink interior, offset by verdant sepals. Three buds shoot-off the ends, while the stem coils handsomely next to the "B" signature cane. For many Vineland glass artists, the rose is a special flower--the favorite of crimpmakers and lampworkers, such as Banford.
Diameter 3". $550-700

Lot 142
*Bob Banford striped snake paperweight.
On a sulphurous ground, the snake appears to rear up and peer out at one from the safety of its glass nest. The striped motif is echoed in the tree stump, and its roots and the branch have a sinewy appearance as well. "Bob's complex lampwork motifs, which include flowers, insects and reptiles, are realistic and consistently well-designed. His work is displayed at Wheaton Village, the Corning Museum of Glass, and the Smithsonian Institution." --Collectors' Paperweights Price Guide and Catalogue, (1983). "B" signature cane.
Diameter 2 15/16". $600-750
