Lot 166
Paul Ysart floral design in a millefiori basket paperweight.
In a transcendent design, the single lampwork flower is both
framed and contained in a basket of multi-colored staves, pulled
down from a ring of millefiori around the edge. The design shows
off Ysart's ability to play with glass, and his distinctive strong
coloring, which make his work innovative, while working in the
traditional style.

Lot 167
Vasart concentric millefiori paperweight, featuring
five rings of distinctively colored and designed canes. The pattern
of a large flower emerges over the clear ground, from a narrow

the center.

Lot 168
Paul Ysart floral design paperweight, with a ring
of spaced millefiori over a mottled cobalt blue transparent ground.
A formal arrangement, notable especially for the flower's pleasing
proportions and star cane stamen. One can spy a hint of green
through all the blue. "A signed cane bearing the initials
'PY' appears in many but by no means all of the finer weights
sent to the United States; it seldom shows up in weights sold
in Europe."--The Encyclopedia of Glass Paperweights.
Diameter 2 15/16". $800-1200 |

Lot 169
Paul Ysart butterfly and flower compound paperweight.
The sherbet-colored insect passes over a multi-petaled fantasy
flower, whose plump petals echo the wings of the butterfly. The
design is framed with seven cog canes sunk into a transparent
smoky green glass. "PY" signature cane at the flower's
stem.
Diameter 3 7/16". $1500-2000 |

Lot 170
Paul Ysart flat bouquet of posies over a latticinio cushion
paperweight. Part bunting, part basket, the use of that recognizable
"wild orange" glass, (to quote Hollister) seems a Paul
Ysart calling card, and the orange and white spirals weave an
airy frame for the six, small, lampworked flower heads and their
teardrop leaves.
Diameter 3 3/16". $800-1200 |

Lot 171
Paul Ysart, ca. late 1950s, early '60s, millefiori butterfly
paperweight, on "black" ground, giving the piece
the appearance of velvet. In a striking blend of cane design
with a touch of lampwork, Ysart produces a twist on the Classic-era
motif. Unfinished pontil mark.
Diameter 2 13/16". $800-1200 |
