Lot 194
*Saint Louis 1980 lizard double overlay paperweight. A
coiled, gilded lizard, reintroduced from an antique mold design,
rests atop the pink and white leaves and vine design, accented
with more gilding and a star-cut base. An elaborate, rococo artwork
recalling the long history of the cristallerie. Signed and dated
with paper label. Limited edition of 300. See Annual Bulletin
of the PCA (1984), Fig. 12, p. 11.

*Saint Louis 1981 Special Issue Iranian Hostages faceted
paperweight, with a concentric millefiori pattern of cog
canes lined in red, over a cobalt blue ground, encircled by a
yellow ribbon to invoke remembrance. At the center a special
number cane, "444" to indicate the number of days endured
by the 53 captives.

*Saint Louis 1976 General Washington on horseback gold-foil
inclusion paperweight, on blue background, with red-over-white
double overlay. The foil is made from a drawing by Remy Hetreau
of Arthus Bertrand Co., Paris. This double overlay is a more
valuable version of the two released editions. Signature and
date cane and paper label. Limited edition of 400.

*Saint Louis 1979 Tutankhamen gold-foil inclusion paperweight,
with a 24k gold death mask of the pharaoh from a medal by Arthus
Bertrand Co., Paris, in clear faceted crystal over orange ground.
The ring of canes suggest the artifacts of the king's tomb, covered
in carnelian and lapis lazuli. "Peaceful. Yes, that's
very true. I've often thought I'd like to carry (paperweights)
in my coffin, like a pharaoh." --Collette, from The

*Saint Louis 1986 Special Edition Statue of Liberty gold-foil
inclusion on blue ground paperweight. The face of Liberty
is encircled by 19 star canes. With five-and-one facets, signature/date
cane in base, and inscribed, "France, United States of America,
1886-1986," acid-etched with the foil-maker's name.
