Hugh Smith ruby-red flower and bud on jasper ground paperweight,
ca. early 1970s. Scratch-signed by the artist "Hugh Edmund Smith". "Two glassworkers that should be added to the list of fine South Jersey crafts people are Hugh and Carolyn Smith, who operated from their own home studio during the 1970s and early 1980s. ...The background in most of their weights is usually a fine grained pebble ground, occasionally opaque, which effectively shows off the design." --Annual Bulletin of the PCA (1998).
