Provenance: Collection of Junius T. Langston.
Diameter 2 7/8". $1300-2500
"It is invidious, however, to single out for notice particular American collectors when there are several score fine collections, not all of them large, and some of which have not been publicized, even in collecting circles. The weights belonging to Dr. Junius T. Langston, (distinguished physician) of Plainfield, New Jersey… would deserve mention in any complete listing of American paperweight collections." -A Garland of Weights.

Very good antique Clichy scattered complex millefiori paperweight,
including one white and pink rose, one white and green rose, and a small white rose at the center of a blue, pink and white complex cane, on clear ground.
Diameter 3 1/16". $1400-2500
"The classic period of paperweight manufacture is generally considered to have extended from 1840 to 1860. The idea of paperweights as a saleable art form is thought to have been introduced in 1845 at the Austrian Industrial Fair in Vienna, where Pietro Bigaglia of Venice, one of a long line of Muranese glassworkers, displayed his wares. Although some weights may have been manufactured previously in France, it is believed Bigaglia's weights may have stimulated the development of sophisticated paperweight manufacture in France." -Collectors' Paperweights Price Guide and Catalogue.
