Lot 21
Antique Clichy circular millefiori garlands paperweight,
with pink roses and white roses, on clear ground. The design contains five circular garlands, around a central garland, each encircling a complex center cane. The garlands are composed of canes in pink, green, blue, purple, red and white, including one garland with seven pink and green "Clichy" roses, and one garland with eight white and green roses. An eighth pink rose is centered within a ring of purple cog canes. "The Clichy rose is really a cane like other canes. Its petals are composed of flattened tubes bundled together about a core of thin rods symbolizing pistil and anthers that appear to have been assembled much as other canes are assembled…The proof that these are canes is furnished by weights containing more than two roses of the same color, for here we can see the repetition of identical petal patterns that mean the roses were snipped from one cane." -The Encyclopedia of Glass Paperweights, p. 126.
Diameter 2 11/16". $3000-4000
