Lot 107
Paul Stankard 1999 "Tap Root Bouquet" paperweight,
with a blue and white morning glory, white flowers, blueberries, leaves, roots, a beetle, an ant, word canes and an earth "spirit." In his homages to nature, Stankard says he is influenced by the writings of the romantic poet Walt Whitman: "From the beginning, I was drawn to Whitman's response to nature, his view of life as a creative spiritual journey and his references to native flowers, insects and birds which are the subjects of much of my own work. I love the way he takes seemingly ordinary experiences and shows them to be miracles." Signed/dated.
Diameter 3 7/16". $3500-4500

Paul Stankard 1989 green cloistered botanical sculpture,

His creativity in producing the lampwork elements goes far beyond simply evoking nature realistically; his work evidences originality, whimsy, and poetic vision, in addition to technical mastery, which places him in a class by himself." -Dwight P. Lanmon, former director, Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library, and former director of The Corning Museum of Glass. Signed/dated.
