Lot 2
Rare antique Baccarat seven-flower
bouquet paperweight, containing
a central yellow pompon comprised of numerous C-shaped petals,
with a central emerald and white arrow point and ruby star complex
cane. Above the pompon is a cluster of three light blue forget-me-nots,
each with a white stardust and turquoise bull's-eye. Then, three
fantasy flowers, all of which exhibit a ruffled edge, two designed
with arrow canes, and all of them centered with white stardust/bull's-eye
canes. The flowers are on entwined stems and framed by green
leaves, over star-cut ground. Six and one facets. The superimposed
"X" design in the stem is considered typical of Baccarat.
(See Antique French Paperweights and Related Objects, p. 15)
The leaves surrounding the forget-me-nots are of a brighter green
than the bouquet's others and show fine detail, and perhaps suggest
a committee of lampworkers, all contributing their best floral
feature.
Diameter 3 1/4". $13,000-16,000 |

Lot 3
Rare antique Clichy millefiori and
lampwork blossom paperweight, with
a stylized central flower, having three concentric rings of petals,
the outer one in multi-hued purple, with inner rings of pale
yellow and burnt orange, topped with brown. Between the layers
of petals and the red and white complex cane center, rest two
rings of ivory ruffles. The fantasy flower blooms from a curved
brown-and white-striped stem with a closed green bud and three
dark green leaves, on a bed of double-swirl white latticinio.

no two of which are exactly alike." -The Art of the
Paperweight: Challenging Tradition.

Lot 4
Very rare antique Clichy five-flower
bouquet paperweight, of
stacked lampwork and millefiori flowers, in purple, yellow, red,
green, blue, and white, with dark green leaves framing each flower.
A rich variety of lampwork petals surround complex cane centers,
with the bottom pair of flowers having very small and almost
hidden canes. The top blue and white bud consists almost entirely
of a lengthened white stardust cane. A pink and white ribbon
wraps around the stems. "Some fantastic flowers have
petals fashioned from lengths of cane that have been sliced through
lengthwise, exposing the interior of the cane, the petal tips
showing the bisected cane ends, a remarkable feat and an exercise
of imagination that represents paperweight-making at its best."
-The Encyclopedia of Glass Paperweights.
Diameter 2 13/16". $20,000-25,000 |
