Antique Saint Louis six-flower garland
paperweight, with a border
ring of clematis and other flowers in cobalt blue, pink, and
white, each blossom having five petals, a star cane center, and
light green leaves, on clear ground. "These uncommon
weights show a big circle of small flat bouquets, clematis, or
other blossoms, or pansies, usually in clear glass."

Lot 9
Antique Clichy mushroom paperweight,
with a close packed complex
millefiori mushroom, in an outstanding array of colored canes,
including a pink and green rose cane, a white and green rose
cane, and a white rose cane, in a white stave basket on clear
star-cut ground. Five and one facets. "[Clichy] cane
colors are actually similar to those found in St. Louis and Baccarat,
but cobalt blue is used sparingly, and opaque pink, brilliant
deep aquamarine or medium thalo blue (not turquoise), warm cadmium
green, ivory, lilac, and deep ruby or deep cherry red are seen
in abundance, giving the weights a warmth and richness not found
elsewhere. If Baccarat paperweights appear to be seen in shade,
Clichy seem to be always in broad sunlight." -The Encyclopedia

Rare antique Clichy Rose and garland
paperweight, with a trefoil
garland of green and red millefiori, encircling a large, central,
pink and green Clichy rose, and looped around six, spaced, complex
pastry mold and floret canes, in pink, blue, turquoise, and white,
on clear ground. "Whether woven to celebrate love, victory
or merely beauty, the millefiori garlands found in patterned
spacing schemes are among the most graceful and delicate ornaments
