Antique Baccarat Dupont pansy paperweight,
consisting of a flower
with dark purple upper petals, and dark yellow and purple lower
petals, around a stardust/bull's-eye cane center, on a curved
stem with a purple and yellow bud, and green leaves, over clear,
star-cut ground.

Lot 87
Antique Venetian lampworked round scent
bottle, with murrine
portrait canes of three men and three gondolas, amidst swirls
of gold aventurine and colored glass, in blue, green, turquoise,
mauve, and white. Unknown Venetian manufacturer, mid-to-late
19th century. Topped with ornate, hinged, brass stopper, and
attached chain. "Between 1843 and 1848, Venetian millefiori
glass products created for the tourist trade included scent bottles,
as well as jewelry, snuff boxes and handles for seals, tableware,
umbrellas and walking sticks." -Annual Bulletin of the
PCA (1995).

Lot 88
Rare antique Venetian lampworked six-sided
scent bottle, with a
"Vichy" word cane and several murrine portrait canes,
including Pope Pius IX, Ferdinand I and Garibaldi, amidst swirls
of gold aventurine and colored glass, in sea green, turquoise,
mauve, red, blue, and white. Unknown Venetian manufacturer, mid-to-late
19th century. Includes cork stopper and black ridged top, accented
with gold aventurine. "(Franchini) created his canes
by a lampwork process, employing a simple lamp that was fueled
by animal fat. In this freehand method, the glassworker heated
small glass components, such as rods, in a flame and formed them
into the desired shape with simple tools. That Giacomo Franchini
was later able to produce beautifully detailed subject and portrait
canes by this method is almost unbelievable." -The Glass
Menagerie.

Lot 89
Antique Venetian lampworked round scent
bottle mid-to-late 19th
century, with a single rare murrine portrait cane of a bearded
man, wearing a yellow hat, on a ground of swirled light green,
metallic blue, and silver. Features ornate, hinged, brass stopper,
topped with a dark blue faceted glass "gemstone". The
bearded figure resembles one that "is most likely that
of a Doge, the prince of the Republic of Venice. Another possibility
is that it honors Guiseppe Garibaldi, whose conquest of Sicily
and Naples contributed to Italian unity under the royal House
of Savoy." -The Glass Menagerie. Flattened globular
shape.

Lot 90
Antique Bohemian close packed millefiori
paperweight, with a central
blue and white complex cane, and scattered canes in pastel hues
of pink, yellow, green, blue, and orange on speckled, green and
silver mica ground. Includes several star and cross canes. "Bohemian
paperweights appear to be contemporary with Venetian and French
work of the Classic period of paperweight-making, but closer
to the French in feeling and quality of workmanship
The
best of the Bohemian weights show superior workmanship and great
