Lot 136
Delmo Tarsitano salamander paperweight,
with a yellow-spotted green aventurine salamander, camouflaged next to an upright yellow flower with dark green leaves, on sandy and speckled earth ground. While clearly influenced by the antique Pantin salamanders the artist witnessed at the seminal 1978 exhibition at the Corning Museum of Glass (NY), daughter and fellow artist Debbie Tarsitano states, "…he had no intention of copying the Pantin salamanders, but instead wanted to capture the richness and strength of the antiques using his own design style." -Annual Bulletin of the PCA (1998). "DT" signature cane.
Diameter 3". $2500-3000

Lot 137
Delmo Tarsitano salamander paperweight,
with a bright orange and black-spotted salamander, between an upright yellow desert flower and tuft of green leaves, on rocks and wood over greenish, speckled earth ground. A similar example created during roughly the same period (1987-1990) is illustrated and detailed in the article "The Seven Salamanders of Delmo Tarsitano" that appears in the 1998 Annual Bulletin of the PCA. Stylized "DT" signature cane.
Diameter 3". $3500-4000

Lot 138
Delmo Tarsitano "earth-life" snake paperweight,
with an unusual white latticinio snake, having a dark brown head, coiled near an upright yellow and orange desert flower, on pebbly earth ground. A great example of the elder Tarsitano's "earth-life" series of paperweights-realistic presentations of snakes and spiders in their natural environments. "My desert scenes have reptiles, cactus plants, everything. They keep evolving. I just keep going." -All About Paperweights. "DT" signature cane. Produced circa 1985.
Diameter 3 3/8". $4500-5000

Lot 139
Delmo Tarsitano "earth-life" garden paperweight,
with five green and red peppers, on a vine with green-striped white flowers and green leaves, next to a large fly, resting atop a white web nest, over sandy earth ground. The depiction of natural scenes in the "earth-life" series reflects "things that delighted him as a boy. Growing up,…Del saw vegetables, peaches, and other farming scenes that formed his character and love for nature. As an adult he kept a lush garden which inspired him to translate life that he saw into glass art." -Annual Bulletin of the PCA (1991). "DT" signature cane. Produced circa 1985.
Diameter 3 5/8". $5000-6000

Lot 141
Delmo Tarsitano butterfly paperweight,
having yellow and blue millefiori wings, over an upright pink chamomile blossom with green leaves, on a cane ground of close concentric pink, blue, and white complex millefiori, including five-point stars and turtle silhouette canes. This piece is rare and unusual in a number of respects. First, Delmo made very few cane-ground weights, only about 25. Of these, maybe six had butterflies. Also, these weights were produced in 1990-91, during the last few years of his life, and the pink and blue color scheme of the canes as well as the painterly appearance of the butterfly suggests the possible influence of his daughter and fellow paperweight maker Debbie Tarsitano. This makes their shared "DT" signature cane, that appears here on the underside, all that more appropriate.
Diameter 3 1/2". $5500-7000
